Life’s not all burgies and beers, baybees. Peep the solicit:
Like a big, bad hangover, Jenny Zero is BACK! Following the events of volume one, Jenny returns to Japan with the Action Science Police, and reunites with her BFF, Dana Sheratin! But the two badass besties soon find themselves dealing with a Kaiju Death Cult, a giant burger mascot, and a new monster called . . . fame?! The massive madness starts HERE!
“I fucking love you, Jenny Tetsuo.”
Jenny’s back! My new favorite, ‘not quite a hero but close enough,’ is set to make more waves in the comic book world, and I am so ready! The epic vibes set in volume one don’t miss a beat. Readers are dropped right back into the clusterfuck, and it feels as comfortable as a warm, fuzzy robe. Volume II is coming in hot and bringing more of everything we loved: more Jenny; more monsters; more dick hits and back story!
I’m definitely looking forward to more of these Kenji Tetsuo journal entries. These flashbacks happen organically and give Dave Dwonch and Brockton McKinney a chance to breathe more life into this batshit crazy future they’ve created. It also adds a lot to Jenny’s character, as we’re able to see, first hand, that recklessness, along with Jagokai DNA, run in the family.
Dwonch and McKinney are an absolutely stellar tag-team of creatives, and their dual input makes these scripts scream like a gnarly, alien artifact. Behind the sass and brutality, there exists a truly great protagonist, and with this second volume, it feels like these creatives are ready to pull back the layers exposing more of Jenny’s charms, which were previously hidden behind her trauma. Dana, the bestie, seems to be a key element to this exposure, and she’s back to play an even bigger role this go-around.
Oh, there’s also murderously gigantic burger mascots, a kaiju cult, and more bureaucratic bullshit hoops through which Jenny will have to drunkenly jump. Plus a Yakuza-esque creep with a sword hand.
Speaking of sword hands, once again, Magenta King is slaying every single goddamn panel in this book. The characters, new and old, look great. The action is as greasy and delicious as Chunker Jr burger, and it’s all intensified by Arnaldo Robles’ colors, which are eye-catching as all get-out. Seriously, this book is pur-tay, folks. You’re going to want to take this book to bed with you and make it breakfast in the morning once your legs quit wobbling.
Jenny Zero was one of Blake’s Buzz’ top books of 2021, and volume 2 is already plucking at my heartstrings. Nepotism be damned, but I’m already feeling Best of 2022 vibes.
Jenny Zero Volume II is out today. Don’t bullfuck around and make sure to pick this up when you’re out comic shopping.
