MARY SHELLEY'S SCHOOL FOR MONSTERS: LA LLORONA IN THE MACHINE GOES LIVE ON KICKSTARTER ON 5/30
KANSAS CITY, MO 5/15/2023, writer and comic book creator, Jessica Maison, is back on the crowdfunding giant to produce a full-color, hardcover edition of Mary Shelley’s School for Monsters! Jessica is reuniting with the creators who helped make the previous School for Monsters campaign a success. Anna Wieszcyzyk, Godkiller, Home, is bringing her bombastic lines and colors back to the pages of La Llorona in the Machine, and Metal Ninja Studios’ Joel Rodriguez is returning on lettering and design. The Kickstarter campaign for Mary Shelley’s School for Monsters La Llorona in the Machine will run until June 20th.
A young Mary Shelley encounters an occult scientist and a living book of spells who accidentally split her into two versions of herself: the literary giant who goes on to write Frankenstein and a supernatural girl, Shel, who spends her immortality fighting evil humans who exploit monsters.
Shel, Frank (the creature), and Necro (the Necronomicon) must save a kidnapped ghost, La Llorona, from a villainous video game programmer, Edith Sharp. Sharp trapped La Llorona in her game, and now, children who play it are going missing. The team must rescue La Llorona before more children go missing.
“The characters in Mary Shelley's School for Monsters are, at their core, here to remind us who the real monsters are and who they are not,” says writer and series creator Jessica Maison. “The people holding the pitchforks are almost always the real monsters, and those pitchforks don’t seem so far away anymore. I am definitely challenging those types of dangerous narratives, and I’m doing that while taking the readers on a spooky, mysterious adventure.”
Creating a safe haven for the misunderstood is no new endeavor for writer Jessica Maison. She spends a lot of her time working with local youths to exercise their creativity, typically with writing workshops. Mary Shelley’s School for Monsters La Llorona in the Machine is an extension of these real-life endeavors.
Mary Shelley’s School for Monsters: La Llorona in the Machine is a frightfully tasteful mix of Scooby Doo, Wednesday Adams, and the Winchester brothers from Supernatural, and it’s ready to excite a wide audience once fulfillment has completed in the summer. The book will also be available in person at San Diego Comic Con on July 26th!
Mary Shelley’s School for Monsters: La Llorona in the Machine is available in both digital and physical editions with options for signed and remarked bookplates. There are also enough add-ons and tiers to thrill a horror aficionado of any age!
