It used to be hard to shut me up, but I got quiet. Things get quiet sometimes.
I like it quiet. Probably because I like to read. I got a Kindle back in November, and I’ve had my nose in novels since. Yeah, the comic guy has been reading novels. Turns out, I missed prose.
Prose makes my mind think differently. My eyes fall across more words. Some I’ve forgotten or maybe never knew. I see how to use them differently, and it gets my brain in a different groove.
I’m trying to read every day, even if it’s only a few minutes. Those minutes add up. Pages turn to chapters, and then BAM. You’ve finished a novel.
I still love comics, but I’ve fallen off the collector bus (I didn’t have enough money to keep the bus pass active). I don’t miss buying every omnibus because it might sell out and I might find time to read it one day. I’ve been checking out books on Hoopla and snagging cheap digital books for the Kindle.
Oh, is that what this post is about?
What I’m reading
Cole and I decided to bring back Blake and Cole Read a Book on Fable! We’re doing a book club, and we’re reading an awesome sci-fi novel full of epic spy shenanigans and governments you can’t trust. Even in the stars, can’t trust a fuckin politician.
Dark Space leaves you constantly checking your seatbelt to make sure you’re strapped in for its breakneck antics. The characters are deep, and the conflict is intense to say the least.
Horror Movie is weird like me, and I love it. The formatting is weird. The story is weird. The characters are super fucking weird. It feels like an elongated ritual, but I’m unsure of what is being called forth. It reads like what I wanted Skinamarink to be, in a way. I’m in a rush to finish and let the chaos wash me over.
I’m not reading as many comics lately, but I’ve been hearing people whisper about this old classic. Like all of Vaughan’s books, it’s timely even when you don’t want it to be. The political bullying between the current administration and our friendly northern neighbors is making everyone uncomfortable. Reading this really escalates the over-thinking doomscroll machine I keep trapped in my skull.
I’ll be posting a review of this soon. I like how it’s sitting in my guts.
It’s on Hoopla. If you’re not on Hoopla, sign up. It’s free, and libraries are amazing.
DEALS!
I spent a WHOPPING $14 on books today (2/11/25—the prices might be different when you click the covers to get to the Kindle shop).
I’ve got some REAL cool stuff in my pile. The next read will be a hard choice.
That’s about all I have for now. I work and read, and I’m pretty boring. I’m trying to take babysteps to get back to being a bigger part of the scene.
Been missing you. Now go read something!
Keep buzzin my man! 🐝 💪🏽
Definitely miss the original version of the Blake's Buzz livestream show. It was one of the best out there!
